Building character is extremely important, and can benefit you in many ways. What I believe are the basics of character building are respect, fairness, trustworthiness, responsibility, cooperation and being caring. You don't have to have all of these aspects, but building them is a need to function. For example, instead of just addressing someone blatantly, or roughly, as you most likely don't know their name, you could address them as Mister, Miss, or Missus, depending on their gender and marital status. Also, being fair, caring, and trustworthy are all formed around the same idea of equality and happiness. Unfair situations, lack of care or positive attention from others, and being untrustworthy, disloyal, or a liar, can significantly affect how a person thinks, acts, and altogether functions. Character building activities, such as trust falls, build your insight of other peoples' trustworthiness, which in turn, reflects back to you and boosts your own. In addition, being responsible can help people trust you and think positively of you, and it can also make you feel like you are a reliable person, which boosts self esteem. Cooperation builds one's ability to see others' points of views, feelings, ideas, and how hardworking they are. To add on, the negative side of all of these things; being disrespectful, unfair, untrustworthy, irresponsible, uncooperative, etc., can mentally take away from an experience, train of thought, and even can cause suicidal attempts and thoughts if continued to an extreme. Furthermore, character building is crucial to someone's state of mind and life.
